Most financial educators do not look like us, they do not have the same problems, and they do not share our culture. That’s why this week, we’re introducing you to my good friend, Gigi Gonazález.

Gigi is a financial educator who knows what it’s like to be a first-gen Latina and build wealth with our circumstances in mind. Giovanna "Gigi" Gonzalez is a TikTok influencer, financial educator, and author of Cultura and Cash. During The Great Resignation, she quit her 10-year corporate career to pursue her true passion: teaching financial literacy to young adults. Gigi teaches personal finance and career navigation for First Gen at various organizations and on her TikTok account @thefirstgenmentor. She was named 40 under 40 by the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement, "Latinx to Watch" by Hispanic Executive Magazine and Top 25 Creator by Fast Company. In her free time, she likes to catch up with her favorite reality TV shows and cuddle with her dog, Bailey.

In this week’s episode, Gigi tells us how her book is revolutionizing financial education for first-generation Latinx. Because our cultural context is an important part of our financial journey. It influences our goals and mindsets and gives us the information we need to build wealth for us and for our community.

Tune in to hear more about Gigi’s incredible story and her new book Cultura and Cash.

Welcome to a brand new episode of the ¿Quién Tú Eres? podcast, where we explore the conflict we often face between "professionalism" & being our authentic selves. This week's guest is Eddin Martinez.

Eddin has been instrumental in the success of a ton of dope podcasts - and these are some of the biggest podcasts in the game. WHOREible Decisions, Flagrant, The Brilliant Idiots, the New Rory & Mal podcast, and many others. He's been an engineer, photographer, and even DJ. He's what some people call a jack of all trades. A lot of time he's been in the background - engineering, working the tech, making sure that he's doing whatever he can to make the show run smoothly. These days he's thinking about flipping the camera around and sharing more about his perspective, his expertise, and his story.

In this week’s episode, Eddin tells us how being his most authentic self led him to an incredible career in content production. Growing up, Eddin was given the same speech, as usual, to become a lawyer or find a 9 to 5 job. But he knew that wasn’t his calling. He spent years DJing, networking, and learning as much as he could about all kinds of production processes. He’s talked his way into incredible rooms and given himself the most amazing opportunities. Tune in to Eddin’s episode to find out how he did it all and stayed true to his most authentic self.

Hey Sarah!

When was the last time you saw a financial educator that looked like you?

It might not look like it at first, but finances and culture go hand in hand. Our culture influences our habits and our priorities. How our parents taught us about money will impact how we feel about money.

So what happens when most of the financial educators in this country are white male Americans?

There are gaps in our education.

If they can’t teach us how to address our cultural financial habits, we aren’t receiving a full education.

That’s why this week, we’re introducing you to my very good friend, Gigi Gonazález. Gigi is a financial educator who knows what it’s like to be a first-gen Latina and build wealth with our circumstances in mind.

Giovanna "Gigi" Gonzalez is a TikTok influencer, financial educator, and author of Cultura and Cash. Tune in to hear more about Gigi’s incredible story and her new book Cultura and Cash.

In this week’s episode, we talk about

  • How Gigi broke out of her scarcity mindset

  • Why finances are different for First-Gen Latinx

  • How her job almost blocked her career as a financial educator

  • The story of how Eva Longoria endorsed her book

Hey!

When was the last time you took a chance on yourself?

Many of us are stuck in an endless loop of security. We’re just trying to pay our bills and make it to the end of the week. But sometimes, prioritizing security can cost you opportunities.

Have you ever missed out on an opportunity because you chose security?

This week's guest is a master at taking a chance on himself. He’s constantly leaping at the chance to prove himself - even though he was afraid to do so in the moment. He’s gotten in on the ground floor of major production companies, networked with some of the biggest names and podcasting, and even secured himself a DJ set on a sold-out concert.

Because he saw the chance and he took it.

Tune in to Eddin’s episode to find out how he did it all and stayed true to his most authentic self.

In this week's episode, we talk about:

  • Why Eddin pursued DJing instead of a 9 to 5 job

  • How he found out he wasn’t the only creative in his family

  • Why he took a chance on himself and gave himself amazing opportunities

  • Why learning from your mistakes is so important
